The Art of Decay and Poetry of Bones
This collection of photographs created by James Bostick explores the dark side of my approach to still life imagery. The included themes are inspired by the ”Wunderkammer” collection from my Salem home.
The images reveal the poetry of bones and the beauty of decay. Cabinets of Curiosities are a centuries old practice of collecting beginning in Europe during the Renaissance. “Kunst-und wunderkammern” translates to “cabinets of art and marvels,” is often shortened to “wunderkammer,” meaning “room (or cabinet) of wonder.
I'm fascinated by the fact that bones and skulls are exquisitely beautiful objects that don't appear until death. Some of the images might not be pleasant, but they reveal something unusual when you make a photo, every object has a certain quality, and things take on an importance in the photo that may have been overlooked in the real world.
